You’ve probably heard about the big money-losing game called Crysis 3.
That was a great game for its time, but it was also a game about money, and in order to get that big budget to happen, Crytek needed to invest a lot of money into the technology it was building.
“We needed to do a lot more than just create a game,” Crytek COO Peter Piotrek told Polygon.
“Crytek needed some of the tools that we use in our day-to-day business.”
The Crytek team also needed to make the tech affordable.
The company didn’t want to be too heavy handed when it came to building its own VR systems.
“It wasn’t something that was an easy one,” Piotreck said.
Crytek’s hardware costs a lot. “
And the price point was very important to us.
Crytek’s hardware costs a lot.
The technology that we need to use in Crysis is very expensive, and that costs a huge amount of money.
So we needed to design the system to work within a budget that was within our reach.
We didn’t need to be like, ‘We’re going to make Crysis VR for $10,000.’
We didn of course need to make it the next great thing.”
But the game itself wasn’t going to be cheap.
“The biggest reason for Crytek was to make sure that the game was going to run in the cloud,” Piatrek said.
That meant that the studio could do all sorts of things with its resources.
“There’s no reason to have a big game with an expensive engine.
It just doesn’t work,” Pitchkrek said, referring to Crytek games like Titanfall and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
Crysis has a massive engine, but unlike many other games in the genre, it doesn’t require the use of a separate cloud service like SteamVR.
Piatreks team was able to focus on making the Crytek platform accessible, so that players could play without having to pay a subscription fee.
“When we’re making a big PC game, you have a lot to pay for,” he said.
The price of the Crysis engine was going up.
“So we were able to keep the price of Crytek within a reasonable range,” Pirok said.
For those looking to buy the Crytec VR headset, there’s a good chance that it’s not going to come cheap.
At $1099 for the base model, the Crytron VR headset is one of the pricier headsets available.
But it comes with a couple of upgrades over the base version, including the addition of a 360-degree camera and a new camera-based motion capture system that can capture 360-video clips of the user’s movement.
That feature, along with a new, higher-resolution camera, make the Cryteres headset a little bit more affordable than the average headset.
Crytronics headset can also connect to the cloud for an additional $5.99 per month.
The Crytronic VR headset can connect to CloudVR for an extra $5 per month, but the base Crytek version of the headset only works with CloudVR.
The headset will work with any of the Oculus, Valve, or HTC headsets, but Crytek will have to support those headsets.
“If you are using an HTC Vive, you’re probably looking at a price tag that’s a little higher than Crytek,” Pikreks told Polygons reporter.
“But we have a very good deal on the Vive.”
Crytek is currently working with HTC on the Crystech headset, but he said that HTC won’t be making the headset for a while.
“I don’t know when we’ll be able to make this for a short time,” Pijrek said of the upcoming headset.
“Until we have something to announce, I don’t think we can announce it.”
But there’s hope for the Crytires VR headset.
There are still a few games coming out this year that require Crytek-powered VR systems, but that’s all about to change.
Piotreks says that a lot has changed for VR development.
“Right now we’re working on the next major platform, and VR is going to play a big role in the next few years,” he told Polytron.
“For Crytek, that’s not something that we are focused on right now.”
That means that the Crytomat VR headset will be able use the Oculus Rift and the Vive, but not the PSVR, the PlayStation VR, or any other VR headset that doesn’t come with a built-in computer.
“You’re going into the future, and there are a lot VR games coming in that are coming to PSVR and Xbox One,” Piyrek said at Polygon’s conference.
“They’re going for an experience like this, but with a
